Health Guidelines
At TISA, we prioritize the health and safety of all our students and staff. To maintain a healthy environment, it’s important for parents to follow certain health guidelines. This helps prevent the spread of illnesses and ensures your child stays safe while attending school.
Parents and school staff must work together to keep our community healthy. If your child is unwell, it’s important to follow these guidelines to ensure the health and safety of everyone.
General Guidelines for Sick Children: When to Stay Home
If your child is not feeling well, please keep them at home to recover. This helps not only your child but also prevents the spread of illness to other students and staff. The following conditions require you to keep your child at home:
- Fever: If your child has a body temperature above 100°F (38°C) in the last 24 hours, they should stay at home.
- Infections: If your child has a contagious condition like a cold, cough, or chicken pox, they must remain home.
- Antibiotics: If your child is on antibiotics, they can return to school only after 24 hours of starting the medication.
Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. If they are diagnosed with an infection, they should be well for at least 24 hours after starting treatment before coming back.
Contagious Diseases and Communication: Informing the School
If your child is diagnosed with a contagious disease, it’s very important to inform the class teacher or principal right away. This will allow us to take the necessary steps to protect others. Some diseases that need to be reported include:
- Measles
- Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
- Chicken Pox
- Mumps
- Head Lice
Additionally, if your child is suffering from any of these conditions, they will not be allowed back in class without a doctor’s note confirming that the child is no longer contagious.
Health Policy Guidelines: Common Symptoms and Conditions
Please keep your child at home if they show any of the following symptoms or conditions:
- Fever Of over 100°F in the last 24 hours.
- Severe cold or flu-like symptoms: Sneezing, nose drainage, or a cough.
- Diarrhea (liquid stool) in the last 12 hours.
- Unexplained vomiting.
- Rashes: Any new rash that hasn’t been diagnosed by a doctor.
- Ear or throat infections: Especially if antibiotics are prescribed. Your child should stay at home until they have taken the medication for at least 24 hours.
If your child has been exposed to any contagious disease, let the school know. This helps us monitor and prevent the spread of illness.
Return to School After Illness: When It’s Safe to Come Back
Children can return to school when they meet the following conditions:
- Fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication.
- If on antibiotics, after a full 24 hours of treatment.
If your child has been exposed to any contagious disease, let the school know. This helps us monitor and prevent the spread of illness.
